Parthasarathy Srinivasan is professionally known as Kamal Haasan, was born on 7 November 1954. He is an Indian Indian actor, film director, film producer, screenwriter, choreographer, playback singer, lyricist, television presenter, social activist, and politician who predominantly works in Tamil cinema.
Apart from this, he also appeared in other language films, including Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, and Bengali Films. Through his unique and stylish acting, he is recognized as one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema.
Haasan is also known for launching several new technologies in the Tamil cinema. As of 2025, he has won several accolades to his name, including, Haasan including four National Film Awards, nine Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, four Nandi Awards, one Rashtrapati Award, two Filmfare Awards, and eighteen Filmfare Awards South.
If we talk about the national awards, he was awarded the Kalaimamani Award in 1984, and the Padma Shri in 1990, the Padma Bhushan in 2014, and the Order of Arts & Letters in 2016.
Haasan started his acting career as a child artist at the age of just six, where he won the President’s Gold Medal for his acting in his debut film Kalathur Kannamma.

In 2010, after completing 50 years in the film industry, he was awarded as the “CNN-IBN Indian of the Year” special achievement award presented by the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on 21st December 2009.

For his significant contributions to the Tamil Film Industry, the Government of Tamil Nadu awarded Kamal Haasan the Kalaimamani in 1980. In 2010, Haasan was honoured with the Honorary award by the government of Kerala upon completing 50 years in Indian cinema.
He was also awarded the Honorary Award by the government of West Bengal for his film Hey Ram, which is screened at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, West Bengal.
