As in previous years, the veteran actor Mammootty, once again in discussion as a strong contender for the prestigious award. As reported, his performance in Bramayugam (2024) has widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences positioning him as a likely nominee.
Should he win, it would be his seventh Best Actor award at the state level. In 2023, he cliamed his sixth for Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam (2022), and was also a frontrunner in the 54th edition for Kaathal – The Core (2023).
However, that year’s award went to Prithviraj Sukumaran for his role in Aadujeevitham. Among notable contenders is Asif Ali who has garnered critical praise for his diverse performances in four 2024 films: Thalavan, Adios Amigos, Level Cross, Kishkindha Kaandam.
This isn’t his first time nearing a win, he was previously a finalist for Kaattu (2017) and Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha (2019), but narrowly missed out.
His supporters are hopeful that 2024 could finally be his year to take home his first state award.
According to reports, Vijayaraghvan who shared the screen with Asif Ali in Kishkindha Kaandam, is also a strong contender. His performance is being hailed as one of the most impactful of the year.
At the same time, Mohanlal (Malaikottai Vaaliban), Fahadh Faasil (Aavesham), and Tovino Thomas (Ajayante Randam Moshanam) are also being speculated as strong contenders.
