Malayalam Actor Mohanlal is set to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for contribution to Indian cinema. The national award will be given to him at the 71st National Film Awards on September 2023.
The Malayalam Superstar actor will be announced to be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023, the country’s highest recognition in cinema. The award will be presented at the National Film Awards 2025 ceremony on September 23, 2025.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting shared a post X confirming the news. “Mohanlal’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! The legendary actor, director, and producer is being honoured for his iconic contribution to Indian cinema. His exceptional talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history,” read the note.
The Prime Minister of India congratulated him on X, while he wrote, “Mohanlal epitomises excellence and versatility. With a rich body of work spanning decades, he stands as a leading light of Malayalam cinema, theatre and is deeply passionate about the culture of Kerala.”
“He has also delivered remarkable performances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films. His cinematic and theatrical brilliance across mediums is truly inspiring,” he added.

The minister extended his wishes to the actor. The Prime Minister remarked, “May his achievements continue to inspire generations ahead.”
In reply, Mohanlal expressed, “I’m deeply humbled, and greatly honoured to be conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. My sincere thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji for your warm words and blessings, which truly encourage and delight me”.
The actor further added, “I shall remain forever grateful to the world of cinema and to all who, through their inspiration and support, brighten my path.”

With a career spanning across four decades, Mohanlal has acted in more than 400 films. He was honoured with Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his contribution to cinema.
